Paul Eales and Kendal McWade have been invited to showcase Instinctive Golf's unique coaching style at a major golf event to be held at Stoke Poges.
'Golf Live' will run from 14th-16th May and boasts a truly impressive list of World class Tour players and leading coaches brought together in what looks like being an amazing week. Already confirmed to display their playing skills will be Colin Montgomery, Lee Westwood, Reteif Goosen and Ian Poulter to name but a few. On the coaching front it looks like being David Leadbetter and Yours Truly plus one other tbc!
Kendal McWade has been appointed the Under 16 North Region Coach for the EGU. The post which covers three counties, Northumberland, Cumbria and Durham, began in December and sees Kendal and his assistant JJ Vallely work with 10 of the regions most gifted kids. Coaching will take place at Matfen Hall near Hexham although there are also a number of matches being arranged to allow the coaches the opportunity to see the boys in competitive mode.
IGC Master Coach Peter Wright has secured a major sponsor for a new exciting event planned for June this year. Teams of kids from clubs all over Germany will descend upon Bruckhausen G.C. to participate in the first ever Junior Skills Championship. There will be a host of fun tests for the teams to display their skills on and Dean Robertson and Kendal McWade will be there to help ensure the events success.
23rd August sees IGC working with over 300 kids at Matfern Hall
in Northumberland as part of Northern Rock's Junior Golf Festival.
Returning for its eighth year, the festival is aimed
at giving kids aged from 3 to 12 years old an opportunity to try
golf, improve their skills or play in a professional tournament, as
well as providing a great day out for all of the family.
10 IGC coaches, headed up by Paul Eales, will be on hand
to guide the kids through a series of fun games and challenges that
will not only improve their skills, but hopefully hook them to the game
for life.
Sounds like a great day!
Congratulations to IGC Practitioner William Barnes from Garstang Golf
Centre who has qualified to represent GB&I against USA at The Carrick
in September. This biannual match is between the top 10 club professionals
and played along Ryder Cup lines.
Good luck Will.
Well done to the Lancashire Women's County team who won the Northern Counties Match week at Heswall Golf Club.
The County squads experience IGC skills testing at Garstang Golf Centre under the guidance of IGC Mastercoach Paul Eales during their winter training programme.
Seems to have done the trick.
Instinctive Golf Coaching has been asked to present its philosophies to golf coaches throughout the counties of England as part of the England Golf Partnership scheme.
The programme will allow coaches in each region to experience various coaching methods in an effort to encourage more coaching diversity and exploration. The first presentation takes place at Penrith Golf Club on the 20th July and will be led by IGC Founder Kendal McWade.
Instinctive Golf's Paul Affleck has just returned from two weeks on the
European Tour.
Paul, who played for some 9 years at the highest level met some familiar
friends as he introduced Europe's top players to his coaching philosophies.
Read Paul's 'blog' from that first sojourn.
Congratulations go to the amazing SJGT under-14 team that recently
secured two magnificent victories over West Sussex and Northern Ireland.
In February the Scottish youngsters headed to Littlehampton Golf Club
in Sussex where, on a beautiful February day, they overcame a strong West
Sussex side to secure an amazing 5 ½ - ½ victory.
In April, a Northern Ireland select travelled to the home of golf, St Andrews,
to test themselves against the young Scots. It was an absolutely magnificent
event and the boys from the Emerald Isle loved the whole experience, especially
having their photographs taken in front of the famous R&A Clubhouse. The
Irish performed well on a really challenging day, however they came up
against some inspired golf and eventually succumbed 4 ½ - 1 ½.
Incredibly, one of the Scottish teams were 9 under par (gross) by the
time the match ended on the 12th hole. Well done boys!!!
Dave Corsby from Royal Lytham, who has worked with Kendal for the past couple of years, won the West of Ireland Amateur Championship at Co Sligo.
Corsby came through the Strokeplay Qualifying un-noticed along with some
other English visitors and opened his matchplay phase with a 3 & 2 win
over Stephen Loftus (Lahinch) and it wasn't until he beat 2008 runner-up,
Des Morgan (Mullingar) that anyone really took notice of him, and the
stand out feature of his game was his putting, helped in no small way
by what he later described in his acceptance speech as "probably the best
links greens he has ever played on".
Having dispatched Morgan 2 & 1, he was faced by fellow Englishman and
third time entrant to the West, Jonathan Hurst, a quarter-finalist in
each of his two previous visits and in impressive form having beaten Simon
McConnell (Ballyclare) 8 & 7 and 2007 South of Ireland Winner, Darren
Crowe (Dunmurry), 5 & 4. Corsby never trailed in beating Hurst 3& 1 to
set up a quarter-final against current Irish International and Walker-cup
Panellist Alan Dunbar (Rathmore). Both played some tremendous
golf before the Lytham man closed out the match on 18 to win by 2 holes.
Corsby faced another Walker Cup Panellist in the semi-final in Niall Kearney
(Royal Dublin), the 2008 South of Ireland Winner. Once again the golf
was sparkling and Corsby won with a birdie 3 on the final green.
Corsby would now face his biggest test as he met defending champion and
Ireland's current standout number 1 amateur, Shane Lowry (Esker Hills).
He got off to a nervous start, losing the opening two holes before halving
the third in eagle. An uncharacteristic error by Lowry on the 4th allowed
Corsby a chance to get back into the match and that settled him. Both
players served up some awesome golf to a gallery in excess of 500 people,
duelling it out with birdies galore to the delight of the crowd. Right
throughout the match it was Corsby's putter that was inflicting the greatest
mental blows on his opponent and it eventually saw him dormie two up before
he made his first serious error and lost the famous 17th to bogey. Lowry,
the true Champion immediately sensed an opening and birdied 18 to set
up a sudden death conclusion. Following two fine tee shots under the greatest
of pressure it was Corsby who thrilled the gallery, nearly holing his
wedge approach for a conceded birdie 3. Lowry tried gallantly with his
birdie effort but narrowly missed to enable young David Corsby of Royal
Lytham to claim his place in West of Ireland Open history by becoming
its 87th winner, joining such greats as Carr, Ewing, McGimpsey,
Harrington & McIlroy
on the Champions Board.
Congratulations DAVID CORSBY!
Since its launch in December 2008 the Instinctive Golf Coaching website
has proved a massive hit.
If you had Googled “Golf Coaching” last November
you would have had to go to page 3 or even 4 to have found IGC. Since
then we have moved to 7th. spot on the first page.
This is an amazing
transformation and everyone involved with IGC would like to thank you
for your continued interest and support. It is quite simply the increased
level of traffic from visitors like you that has brought about this meteoric
jump up the ratings. We would also like to take this opportunity to thank
Robert McEwan our amazing webmaster. His passion and commitment to the
site was incredible and there is no doubt that it resulted in our best
ever design. And it won’t stop there! We are already planning lots of
exciting future developments, so keep watching this space.
If there is
anything we can do to improve your IGC website experience then please
let us know and we will endeavour to introduce it. Thank you all again.
We are delighted to be able to announce an additional two IGC Golf Schools.
One at the Marriott Dalmahoy near Edinburgh, and the other at Garstang
Golf Course in Lancashire.
Dean Robertson, Kendal McWade and Dalmahoy Head Professional Scott Dixon
will be hosting the Marriott day on Saturday 2nd May at this beautiful
4* resort. Paul Eales and Kendal will be looking after the Garstang day
on the 21st March. Both these days represent another opportunity for golfers
of all standards to experience the most natural and effective golf coaching
in the world!

Kendal, Paul Affleck and Paul Eales had a fascinating couple of days at the EGU’s Coaching Conference at Woodhall Spa in Lincolnshire recently.
We were invited by National Coach Peter Mattson to sit on a panel taking
questions on the future of golf coaching. The audience were very kind to
us and we managed to deal with everything that was thrown at us without
too many incidents.
Apart from that very enjoyable experience we also had
the pleasure of listening to some great speakers. The pick of the bunch
was probably sports psychologist John Pates. John has had a huge amount
of success on the Tour, but his introduction to working with Europe’s top
players was an amazing encounter with Darren Clarke. John was asked to
spend some time with Darren after a particularly poor run of form and following
another unsatisfactory practice round. He worked his magic and 4 days later
Mr. Clarke had won the event and John’s life was about to change forever.
He immediately gave up his lecturing post and became a Tour psychologist.
Wow! Now that is what I call making an impact. Fascinating and inspirational
man.
Kendal and 12 of Scotland’s most gifted under-14s travel to the south
coast of England on the 13th February to enjoy a pre-season training weekend
culminating in a match against the best that Sussex has to offer.
Steven
Orr and Kendal will put the boys “through their paces” at the fantastic
facilities at Rustington Golf Centre before heading to Little Hampton
for the better- ball match-play event. This is the first time the kids
have played a match on UK soil.
Last year they defeated a Spanish under-13 team from the Murcia region
of Southern Spain at the beautiful Hacienda del Alamo. There is also talk
of a Scotland v England match later in the year which would be a fantastic
spectacle. Watch this space for more news and results.
Instinctive
Golf's Paul Affleck, Paul Eales and Kendal McWade have been invited to
sit on the coaching panel at the Union's annual coaching conference at
Woodhall Spa on the 15th & 16th
February 2009.
The Conference, entitled "Give Us Back Our Game", looks at the influences that
modern advances in coaching and technology have had on the game and whether it
is time to look at what can be learned from the more natural coaching methods
of 'yesteryear'.
This is what EGU National Coach, Peter Mattson, says about the event...
"This conference is about revisiting some of the 'old habits' and using some of the research available to explain why a lot of those habits were quite beneficial. The conference also aims to explain how modern coaching can help in bringing the athletes or players to a whole new level".
Everyone involved at IGC is extremely honoured to be asked to participate in
this major conference and it once again reinforces just how highly Instinctive
Golf is regarded in the world of elite coaching.
Instinctive Golf Coaching has just completed another hugely successful Summit at the magnificent 5* Hacienda Del Alamo from the 25th - 28th November 2008.
IGC Master Coach Paul Affleck and IGC Founder Kendal McWade were joined by delegates from Scotland, England, Germany, Holland, Italy, Ireland and Norway for 4 days of exploration and learning. The weather could have been kinder but not even the need for a woolly hat and gloves one day could spoil the event.
The week started with a 9 "hole" skills test where delegates had to overcome an extremely strong and gusty wind to complete an extensive array of distance and spin control challenges. Instinctive Golf Coaching believes that the most empowering coaches are those who are still committed to developing their own games and learning new skills. The test produced some fantastic performances and also gave players an indication where some work may be required.
The following 3 days were a mix of clinics, practical and live lessons all given,
of course, in a totally 'instinctive' manner.
The Summit also saw WGTF Coach Colin Crofts from Germany complete his training
and become the 14th fully qualified IGC Coach.
PGA professional Roger Goodfellow from Scotland was attending his first Summit.
The next IGC Coaching Summit will be held at Hacienda del Alamo in the Murcia region of Spain from the 10th - 13th March 2009.
The event is dedicated to players and coaches alike who are interested in leaning more about IGC and to Practitioners/Master Practitioners looking to continue on the training programme.
Instinctive Golf Coaching and its coaches are totally committed to moving golf
coaching away from the super-technical, super-analytical culture which ultimately
failed them as both players and coaches. Unfortunately, an all too common theme
that runs through our amazing family of coaches is that they found their chosen
vocation, for which they had so much passion, had become simply a 'job'! Now
they are on a journey to change that and bring back the love of the game and
desire that they had lost.
If you are tired of 'fixing' swings and telling people what they are 'doing wrong' and excited by the possibility of learning new skills in your own game and helping others do the same, then IGC is for you. So why not get in touch and join us in Spain for a week that will change your life forever!!!!
There is a maximum of 10 places available at this particular summit.

DUTCH SCHOOLS

their golf 'instinctively'. All aspects of the game will be covered from putting
and short game through to driving and consistency. For more information and to
book your place contact the event organiser Andy Evans at andygolfpro@hotmail.com
Day 2 is an IGC Coaching Workshop and is an opportunity for professional and amateur coaches to learn more about Instinctive Golf Coaching and how it helps golfers develop new skills and perform to their potential in the most natural non-technical way possible. For more information and to book your place contact Andy at andygolfpro@hotmail.com
GERMAN SCHOOLS
Instinctive Golf Coach Peter Wright is planning to hold 3 IGC events in 2009
at his club, Bruckhausen GC, in the Munster region of Germany. The first of these
is scheduled for the 22nd & 23rd February. As with the Dutch schools, Sunday
22nd is a golf school for amateurs and the 23rd is a workshop for golf coaches.
For more information and to book your place at either of these days contact Peter
at petethepro1@aol.com
Peter is also putting together a major 3 Day IG Coaching Conference in July.
The conference will be open to all PGA members and Golf Union representatives
and will be hosted by Peter, IGC Founder Kendal McWade and European Tour star
and IGC Coach Dean Robertson. This is shaping up to being an amazing 3 days of
inspirational and interactive coaching. There will be clinics and presentations
by Dean, Kendal & Peter plus daily live coaching sessions. A full itinerary will
be released nearer the time. For more information contact Peter at petethepro1@aol.com
The 2009 IGC German schedule then concludes with another 2 Day School/Workshop in October.
Look forward to seeing you at one of these great days.
The best under 14 talent in Scotland continues to astound. Over 20 youngsters descended upon Turnberry's Arran course on the 7th December in extremely windy and cold conditions (well they were for us old fogies) and St Andrews Ben Kinsley from the 12 and under age group produced an amazing performance to shoot 65 gross. That's right folks...65 gross. Even Dean admitted that he's glad these kids weren't around when he played. Ben pipped Fraser Davren by one shot and there were a stream of great results behind those two.
Dean, Kendal and Steven Orr have been give the opportunity (through the generosity of commercial property company Mathon Ltd.www.mathon.org.uk) to help develop some of the most gifted youngster in Scotland. This is being done through a series of Skill Development days and fun competitions. The progress has been quite remarkable and there is no doubt in the coaches minds that we are looking at a group of kids that will be the future of Scottish amateur golf and maybe even beyond.
